North East MPs’ Forum (NEMPF) on Friday appealed to both Mizoram and Assam governments to adopt conciliatory measures to ensure peace and tranquillity along their border.
In a statement, NEMPF chairman Kiren Rijiju and secretary general Vincent H Pala said the recent developments on the Assam-Mizoram border had been a cause of great anguish and regret to the people of NE. “The loss of life and injury on both sides is shocking and regrettable consequence, and we wish to extend our condolences to the affected families. We must seize the right lessons from this unfortunate occurrence – violence and hostility only lead to loss,” they stated.
Appealing to Mizoram and Assam governments to come together with the honest aim of resolving the long pending dispute, the forum said: “We believe that for this resolution to be fruitful, the amicable participation of all stakeholders is crucial, and we look forward to seeing the restoration of cordial, harmonious and neighbourly relations between the two States.”
