DIMAPUR: ADC & Executive Officer, Medziphema Town Council (MTC), P. James Swu, has issued an order in pursuance of the Home Department Notification dated May 18, 2026, regarding implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
With the objective of promoting decentralised management of biodegradable waste and ensuring a clean and sustainable Medziphema Town, the order directed that the Town Council shall mandatorily establish and maintain a suitable composting facility for treatment of biodegradable kitchen waste generated by households.
The order stated that individual composting was not feasible due to space and other practical constraints. Households may therefore form clusters or common composting arrangements at suitable locations. All households have been directed to comply within 30 days from the date of issue, with ward sanitation committees tasked to assist in facilitating cluster based composting whenever necessary. Failure to comply or continuing disposal of biodegradable kitchen waste through the Town Council’s garbage collection system would be treated as non compliance and may attract appropriate action under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and other applicable laws.
All residents have been directed to extend full cooperation for strict implementation. The order came into force with immediate effect.
