Calling upon the citizens of Mokokchung to remain calm at the first confirmed COVID-19 case in the district, the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) appealed for following proper guidelines as issued by government.
A press release from MTLT convener Merang Longkumer and member secretary, Longrangty Longchar urged people not to stigmatize or discriminate the COVID-19 patients, the suspected cases or their immediate family members or community. While the number of confirmed cases might go up in the days to come, the MTLT appealed people to stand together in humanity, as stigma and discrimination would only ensure a human tragedy.
MTLT further stated that, it was only a matter of when, so there “is nothing surprising that we have our first COVID-19 positive case in our district” and that the last four months of lockdown had been a preparatory stage. In this regard, the MTLT once again appealed the people to be careful of one’s own health, to always wear mask, maintain proper hygiene, maintain proper social distancing, but most of all, do away with social stigma.
