MTLT, WM condole accident victims; MTLT calls for safety measures

The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (Mokokchung Town Youth Organization) and Watsu Mungdang expressed shock and anguish over the tragic September 20 motor accident that happened at K. Station village (Tseminyu) which claimed eight precious lives.

In a press release, MTLT president, Imnaonen Pongen and general secretary, Imkongchuba Pongen stated that words are insufficient to express their sorrow and their feeling of loss is accentuated by the fact that all the victims were in the prime of their youth; some of them had recently cleared the competitive exams and were about to join their services. “It is a great loss for the Naga society indeed”, it added.

As life and death belongs to God alone, the MTLT is helpless to do anything but prayed that the Almighty God grant solace to the bereaved family at this hour of great loss and eternal peace to the departed young souls.
Meanwhile, the MTLT said it was deeply touched by the outpouring support from different quarters during and after the tragedy. MTLT express deep appreciation to the prompt action of the Nagaland Police in Tseminyu and Wokha, the SDRF personnel and all the civil society organizations who have rendered their help.

The MTLT appreciated the chief minister Neiphiu Rio for announcing the ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs to the victims’ families. The Telongjem also appreciated the home minister Y. Patton for ordering a thorough investigation into the accident.

Furthermore, the MTLT has strongly appealed to the Nagaland Transport Department and its nodal agencies to seriously take note of the rising number of accident cases in the state which is taking many lives thereby leaving many families in a state of utter loss. The MTLT suggested the department to initiate thorough brainstorming sessions involving all stakeholders so that a viable solution can be worked out.

In this regard, the MTLT is willing to render its support – intellectually and logistically – if the concern government agencies should be in need of their help to ensure safer streets and highways.
Watsu Mungdang: The Watsu Mungdang (WM) conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the 8 victims. In a condolence note, president Watsu Mungdang, S Arenla Longkumer stated that it was indeed very tragic and heartbreaking to comprehend the pain and loss of such young lives.
