DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN): Medziphema Town Students’ Union (MTSU) and Chakhroma Public Organisation Medziphema circle (CPOMC) have strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Medziphema town and called for a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation to ensure justice for the child.
In a press release, MTSU said its members visited the victim’s family and the family of the accused after learning about the incident to understand the situation and extend support to the child and her family.
According to the FIR registered at the Women Police Station, Dimapur, the accused, identified as Paominlun Gangte, a retired Army personnel and resident of Medziphema town, allegedly sexually assaulted the child inside her residence. The accused was arrested on the same day, and the case was registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, along with other applicable laws. MTSU urged the investigating authorities to conduct a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation and complete all legal procedures without delay or external influence. The union also called on the prosecution to strongly oppose any bail application, considering the gravity of the offence involving a child under the POCSO Act.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the victim and her family, MTSU assured its full support throughout the legal process.
It also appealed to the authorities to ensure the child receives adequate protection, medical care, psychological counselling, rehabilitation and legal assistance as provided under the POCSO Act and other applicable laws.
The union said it would closely monitor the progress of the case and expressed hope that the law would take its course without fear or favour.
CPOMC: Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) Medziphema circle through its media cell condemned the incident and asserted that “such a cruel and inhuman crime” was a serious violation of the rights, dignity and innocence of a child and had no place in a civilized society.
CPOMC affirmed solidarity with the child survivor and the family during this painful time and prayed for the child’s healing, recovery and well-being.
The organisation called upon the law enforcement agencies and the responsible authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation and to ensure that the person responsible was held accountable in accordance with the law. “Justice should be delivered without unnecessary delay,” CPOMC asserted.
It also urged the authorities to provide the child with appropriate medical care, psychological support and protection throughout the legal process.
