
Department of sericulture and Central Silk Board organized a two-day “Muga and eri vanya krishi mela” and “eri and muga awareness camp” on March 23 and 24, at district sericulture office, Dimapur.
Speaking at the programme, director of Sericulture Nagaland, Chandan Basera, encouraged the farmers to maintain sufficient host plant plantation to facilitate rearing of silkworms throughout the year. He also urged the farmers and the department to coordinate each other for synergistic growth by motivating the farmers to focus on large scale production.
Meanwhile, joint director Chubameren, encouraged the farmers to learn from the programme and apply the knowledge gained to their field activities. Deputy director Asangla Alinger, stressed on technical know-how and sincerity of the farmers, while deputy director, T. Sanny Pongener asked the farmers to put their best effort and use their knowledge of sericulture to earn an income.
Earlier welcome address was delivered by scientist- D & Head MSSO, Central Silk Board, Guwahati Dr. B. K. Singh and vote of thanks was delivered by district sericulture office (DSO), Dimapur, Yashimeren.
During the technical session, resource person Dr. B.K. Singh covered topics on package of practices for cultivation of host plant and rearing of Eri and Muga silkworms. Altogether 120 farmers attended the programme
