UNPO urged to play a positive role for talks to come to a logical conclusion
NSCN (I-M) general secretary Th Muivah has accused the Central government of misinterpreting what was mutually agreed upon in the Framework Agreement and of going back on its word.
Therefore, in his speech to the General Assembly of Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organisation (UNPO) held at Washington on March 26 and 27, Muivah said he foresaw serious human rights violations in Nagalim in the event of breakdown of the current Naga peace process.
He also appealed to the UNPO General Assembly to look into the fragile situation of the Indo-Naga peace talks and play a positive role so that the ongoing peace process was brought to a logical conclusion.
Muivah recalled that the historic Framework Agreement was signed with New Delhi on August 3, 2015 after 22 years of long intensive negotiations with the Centre involving six Indian Prime Ministers.
Acknowledging the historical fact, Muivah mentioned that the Central government had recognised the unique history and situation of the Nagas.
NSCN (I-M) general secretary said that unique history meant Nagas had the history of independence and unique situation meant situation in Nagalim that was an aggression and not law and order situation of India.
Based on the universal principle of democracy, the NSCN (I-M) leader claimed that the two parties had reiterated that sovereignty lay with the people, meaning sovereignty of the Nagas lay with Naga people and vice versa. (Full text on p-6)
