MUK, MUC celebrate Chithuni festival

Mao Union Kohima (MUK) celebrated Chithuni festival on January 7 at its community hall, Officers’ Hill Kohima.
A press release from MUK vice president D Neli Koso informed that the celebration was attended by community elders besides MUK, MWUK, MSUK and MDUK office bearers.


On the occasion, a speech was delivered by D. Lokho on the topic “Significance of Chithuni” He said Chithuni festival marks the end of a year and the beginning of a new one and that the rituals practiced during the festival were a means of expression of gratitude to God for the bountiful harvest and for guidance and prosperity in the new year.


Exhortations were shared by P. Sani and N. Asholi respectively. A traditional song was presented by D. Lokho.
Later, vote of thanks was delivered by MUK joint secretary Mikrio Kayina and benediction by MBCK assistant pastor George Arche.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by MUK vice president D.Neli Koso, invocation by Pfokreni Dominic, Catechist and welcome address by MUK president H. Dihe. Members of Mao Union Chumoukedima (MUC) also celebrated Chiithuni festival 2024 at Chümoukedima on January 7.
