Municipal, town council poll preparations reviewed

Amid the various preparatory steps being undertaken by the State Election Commission (SEC) and the state government for ensuring a free, fair and smooth conduct of Municipal/Town council elections, a review and coordination meeting was held at the chief secretary’s conference hall, Kohima on May 29 to take stock of the ongoing preparation.


The meeting was attended by chief secretary along with home commissioner, commissioner & secretary of Municipal Affairs, state nodal officer of SEC and police nodal officer. During the meeting, chief secretary stressed on having a close coordination between SEC and the government officials deputed for election in order to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.


State election commissioner T John Longkumer briefed the house on various preparatory steps and measures that the commission had taken for the smooth conduct of the election, assuring the officials that all necessary arrangements were on track.


He further informed the meeting that all electoral processes were proceeding as per the election schedule and requested all concerned to continue working with the same commitment to ensure that the election was successfully completed as scheduled, keeping in mind the submission to that effect made before the Supreme Court of India.


While the police nodal officer updated the meeting regarding security arrangements being put in place to ensure a peaceful poll, the home commissioner assured to provide all possible assistance towards deployment of security personnel.
