MVD to conduct strict mechanical checking

Motor Vehicles Department, in an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of Transport Commissioner, T. Meren Paul on July 28, has resolved to conduct strict mechanical checking of all the city buses and phase out any vehicle that are found mechanically and physically wanting road worthy to be used as passenger vehicles. An official release said, of late, number of fatal road accidents has taken place in Kohima involving city buses. Besides, city buses are also found broken down in the middle of the road causing traffic jams and inconvenience to flow of traffic.
Therefore, all the Kohima city bus owners have been directed to undertake repair/ overhaul and tune up their vehicles including body paint and seat upholstery within 20 days from the date of issue of this notification.
Upon expiry of the dateline, all Kohima city buses shall be subjected for a Road Worthiness and Physical Inspection by the Department and only those vehicles found suitable for performing public service and certified shall be allowed to run at Kohima. The Regional Transport Officer shall issue a special sticker as a pass to all the certified vehicles.
RTO, Kohima, Mezayi Tetseo has stated that any certified city bus found plying in public place shall be impounded by the Traffic Police.
