MVYO urges correct use of Meriema and Pfuratsie junction

DIMAPUR: Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) has appealed to all government departments, institutions, agencies and individuals to adopt and consistently use the traditional names “Meriema” and “Pfuratsie Junction” in official records, publications, signages and communications.
In a release, MVYO stated that the names “Meriema” and “Pfuratsie” originate from the village’s heritage and carry significant cultural meaning that reflects the identity and history of the community. It observed that several government offices and individuals often used “Merema/Merima” and “High Court Junction” in correspondence and signboards, which undermines the traditional nomenclature.
While acknowledging the High Court as a notable landmark, MVYO maintained that it should not replace the original name “Pfuratsie Junction.” The organisation therefore entreated all departments, institutions and the public to officially adopt “Meriema Village” and “Pfuratsie Junction, Meriema Village” in all future usage.
