MZP to picket outside MPSC office to demand reforms

Aizawl, Aug 7 (PTI): Influential student organisation the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) on Friday announced that it will picket outside the Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC) office on August 10 to intensify its demand for structural reforms of the commission.
The MZP has been demanding that the MPSC should be strengthened through structural reforms and additional manpower to improve its efficiency and credibility, the organisation’s general secretary Lalhmingsanga Chhangte said.
The announcement came days after MZP functionaries held a demonstration outside the MPSC office in Aizawl on Thursday.
The protest, which was temporarily called off at around 2 pm, was part of an ongoing campaign to press for reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in the commission, Chhangte said.
Earlier, the organisation held a meeting with students on August 4 to review complaints from job aspirants regarding the MPSC recruitment process, he said.
The meeting observed that repeated administrative shortcomings had seriously undermined the confidence of job seekers, he said.
The MZP alleged that several candidates were affected by problems arising from the One Time Registration (OTR) system.
It also expressed concern over applicants whose candidature was rejected because of incomplete document uploads, including some who had already qualified in written examinations but were later disqualified on OTR-related grounds.
Among key demands, the organisation urged the government to undertake comprehensive reforms of the MPSC and constitute a government-appointed reform committee or commission to overhaul its functioning, according to Chhangte.
It demanded that the existing OTR system should be abolished and replaced with need-based, post-specific application forms.
The MZP also demanded that candidates rejected due to incomplete online OTR document uploads be allowed to submit the required documents offline, providing a one-time offline document submission opportunity for candidates who cleared written examinations but were subsequently rejected because of OTR-related deficiencies.
