The 19th edition of the N.I. Jamir Academic Excellence Award, organized by the Kohima Ongpangkong Telongjem, was held at Molu Ki, Kohima, to felicitate toppers of the HSLC Examination.
According to a DIPR report, a total of 23 toppers were each awarded Rs. 10,000 and certificates, presented by S. Supongmeren Jamir and initiated by Nokchasashi, Convenor, N.I. Jamir Trust.
SDO (Civil), Peren, Sentilong Ozukum, speaking on the theme “Takotet Kaketshir”, traced the origins of education in the Ao community, crediting the first American missionaries and the introduction of the gospel as catalysts for literacy. He emphasized the state’s commendable literacy ranking—3rd nationally—and highlighted the importance of adaptability and purpose-driven education in the modern world.
Sentilong described three traits of an educated student: faith in God, a curiosity for innovation, and a selfless vision to uplift society.
Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, attended as the special guest, sharing insights into the life and legacy of N.I. Jamir. He encouraged students to emulate Jamir’s humility, pursuit of knowledge, and service-oriented mindset. He also urged the youth to recognize and nurture future leaders for the benefit of the community.
On behalf of the awardees, Moasanen Pongener and Ujaren shared their journeys, acknowledging the support of parents, teachers, and mentors, and emphasized that this achievement is just the beginning.
Short speeches were also delivered by Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir and Ongpangkong Mungdang president, Alemtoshi Imsong while the welcome speech was proposed by president, Ongpangkong Telongjem Kohima, Kilangchuba and vote of thanks by Member, N.I. Jamir Trust Board of Governors, L. Chubaonen Longkumer.
