NAAS hosts Northeast livestock disease workshop

A regional workshop on livestock disease control strategies in Northeast India was held at ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, on March 23. The workshop was organised in collaboration with the NAAS regional chapter, Barapani; ICAR–Research Complex for NEH Region; and ICAR–Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Regional Station.
The event was graced by Dr. K. M. Bujarbaruah, former VC, AAU & Former DDG (AS), ICAR, New Delhi and covenor as the chief guest. Special guests included Dr. D. J. Rajkhowa, VC, AAU, Jorhat, Assam; former animal husbandry commissioner, Dr. Suresh Honnappagol; and former vice chancellor, DUVASU, Mathura Dr. A. C. Varshney. The session was presided over by Dr. Girish Patil S., director, ICAR–NRCM.
The workshop featured nine expert lectures from ICAR and university specialists, focusing on controlling major pig and poultry diseases, PPR, LSD, FMD, Mithun diseases, One Health strategies, and advances in veterinary diagnostics. About 100 participants attended, including farmers, students, research scholars, academicians, veterinary officials, and veterinarians from different states.
A scientific panel, chaired by Dr. Bujarbaruah, discussed and prioritized livestock diseases, covering epidemiology, transmission patterns, diagnostics, vaccines, and vaccination strategies. Detailed presentations were followed by discussions on disease control challenges and strategies, leading to recommendations for effective management.
