DIMAPUR: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has rolled out multiple livelihood and rural development projects across Kiphire district to boost sustainable farming and strengthen the rural economy on May 22.
The inauguration was led by P. Bulte, general manager of NABARD, alongside Temsuwati Longkumer, Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, who attended the event as special guest.
At Amahator village, Temsuwati Longkumer inaugurated the JIVA Natural Farming Project, a pilot initiative promoting chemical-free agriculture.
The program focuses on year-round cultivation, heritage seed conservation, and integration of animals and fisheries, benefiting women and marginal farmers. NABARD emphasized that ongoing support will depend on farmers’ commitment to training and sustainable practices.
The DC assured full support from the district administration, highlighting Kiphire’s naturally organic farming practices, untouched by chemical fertilizers.
To enhance the local circular economy, NABARD underscored the importance of Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) certification, ensuring recognition and market access for naturally grown produce. Sethrichem Sangtam, managing director of Better Life Foundation, emphasized the need for certification to boost sales and income.
Bulte inaugurated Gram Dukan, a retail initiative supporting Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in selling their products. He, along with Temsuwati Longkumer, also flagged off two mobile vans to aid marketing efforts for local farmer cooperatives.
A foundation stone was laid for Rural Haat in Kiphire town, a market space designed to accommodate 30 women vegetable vendors. The facility will include storage space and waste management solutions. To improve urban infrastructure, 40 new streetlights were installed and inaugurated in Kiphire town, marking a step toward better public safety.
