Niuland Area Citizens Forum (NACF) has expressed serious concern over the poor condition of Atu Ghoki (Zubza) bridge, which serves as a lifeline for Niuland district headquarters and provides connectivity to parts of Tseminyu and Wokha district.
In a press release, NACF president Kakishe Shikhu and press secretary Soul Sema stated that the issue had been raised many times with the responsible department and ministry for redressal, but the pleas remained unheard for the “reasons best known to the department/ministry concerned.”
The forum pointed out that the condition of the bridge had deteriorated over the years without any major repair works. With improvement of road from Niuland to 4th Mile Junction, NACF said the number of vehicles playing the route has also increased substantially.
Therefore, NACF has urged the responsible department to intervene and address the issue at the earliest so as to “avoid any catastrophic disaster”. It cautioned that should any mishap arose, the government/department should take full responsibility.
Meanwhile, NACF has appealed to all the responsible departments, agencies, NGOs and public to properly use name of its district headquarters as “Niuland” and not “Nuiland or Newland”.
