After the collapse of bridge at 4th mile connecting Kughoboto and Niuland with Dimapur on July 11, residents and villages have been using the Patkai-Sietekhema-Shouba road to go to Dimapur. But commuters have been facing massive inconvenience as this section of the road was in dilapidated condition.
Several residents have started to leave their own homes and are staying in rented house in Dimapur for the convenience of the children, who were studying in various schools in Dimapur.
Taking serious note of this, Niuland Area Citizen Forum (NACF) has urged the state government to construct or repair the Patkai-Sietekhema-Shouba road without any further delay before the anger of the public explodes. In a press statement, NACF president Kakishe Sumi and general secretary Khuvishe Hollo said that the people residing beyond the bridge had to travel on the above mentioned road after the bridge collapsed.
As per DC Dimapur order from the directive of R&B department, the road was supposed to be repaired immediately but till now the road is in worst condition.
Instead of repairing the road, one JCB was deployed to fill the pot holes with mud, the forum said. It become worst with monsoon shower as vehicles plying in this section have to halt after every five six minutes to maneuver over the potholes and in some places mud has to dug for the vehicles to ply, the forum said.
The road is also danger for vehicles especially in night and during day time there was heavy traffic. NACF therefore, said that the present status of road condition was totally unacceptable, as untimely rain will again invite disheartening situation.
Not only this, the forum claimed that many of the village roads were not constructed and even some existing roads were not maintained by the department. Despite, the presence of colleges and schools in these areas, the department has failed to address the problems faced by the citizens leaving the residents in distress.
NACF also said that the district administration and R&B department assurance to take up the matter have all gone in vain.
In view of the above, the forum cautioned that any damage caused to the local infrastructure and school children, the department and administration would be held responsible and that the citizen will not hesitate to for any action.
