Nagaland Alliance for Children and Women Rights (NACWR) has strongly condemned the alleged abduction and molestation incident that took place on June 15 in a moving auto-rickshaw, terming it a grave violation of human dignity and public safety.
In a press release, NACWR expressed deep concern over the rising trend of gender-based violence in the state. It said the June 15 incident was a grim reminder of the urgent need for stronger mechanisms to protect women and children from such heinous acts.
NACWR extended solidarity to the victim and urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to ensure swift and stringent punishment to the accused. It maintained that sending a strong message of zero tolerance was necessary to deter future crimes.
The organisation also highlighted that many similar cases go unreported due to stigma and fear of retaliation, and warned that such crimes were increasing at an alarming rate in Nagaland.
Nagaland Alliance for Children and Women Right called on the state government, civil society organisations (CSOs), and all stakeholders to take serious and immediate steps to address gender-based violence, crimes against women, bullying in educational institutions, and child abuse.
It asserted that collective efforts, effective policy enforcement, and commitment to justice were critical to creating a safe and inclusive environment for women and children in the state.
