Naga Basketry show begins at Sovima

A month-long exhibition titled “Naga Basketry in Focus” opened at the Heirloom Naga Centre Gallery in Sovima on May 1, showcasing the rich craft traditions of Naga communities. The exhibition will continue until May 31.
According to a press release, the exhibit highlights the cultural, functional and ecological importance of basketry, which remains an integral part of everyday Naga life. Traditionally made from bamboo and cane, these baskets are used for carrying harvests, storing grain and transporting goods.
The exhibit highlights the relationship between function and form while also drawing attention to the cultural knowledge embedded within the craft. Visitors are encouraged to look beyond the objects and engage with the histories and practices they represent.
The exhibition is open to the public at the Heirloom Naga Centre Gallery, offering a contemporary space to experience and appreciate Naga basketry traditions.
