IMPHAL, AUG 22: Family members and Naga organisations on Friday marked 100 days since the abduction and killing of six Naga hostages, demanding justice and warning of intensified agitation if the government fails to take decisive action.
A solidarity prayer meeting was held at the JNIMS morgue in Imphal, where the bodies of the victims have remained since their recovery. The programme was initiated by the Joint Tribes Council, Manipur, and hosted by the Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi, Imphal Unit.
Members of the Naga and Meitei communities, family members and representatives of various organisations attended the gathering. Prayers and songs were offered for the departed, while speakers highlighted the families’ continued wait for justice.
Organisers urged the government to act without further delay and warned that protests would be intensified if no concrete action was taken. Leaders further cautioned that protesters could take the bodies to the chief minister’s bungalow if the government failed to address the issue.
The six Liangmai Naga members from Konshakhul village were allegedly abducted from Leilon village in Kangpokpi district along with 14 others on May 13, following an ambush that killed three church leaders.
Their mutilated bodies were recovered on June 10. Various Naga organisations have since staged protests demanding justice and accountability.
At least 10 protesters were injured when a protest over the killings turned violent at the Imphal West-Kangpokpi inter-district border on Thursday.
