DIMAPUR, AUG 26 (NPN): The Naga Hoho Search Committee has appealed to all Naga tribal Hohos and apex organisations, irrespective of state, region or administrative boundaries, to come together to restructure and revitalise the Naga Hoho as an inclusive and representative apex platform of the Naga people.
In an appeal titled “One People, One Voice: A Fervent Appeal to Rebuild the Naga Hoho,” the committee comprising of former president Chuba Ozukum as search committee convenor and members– former assembly secretary Toniho Sheqi, president United Naga Council Ng. Lorho, president Zeliangrong Baudi Ningthoudai Gonmei and president Maring Uparap Assembly Wairok Hangsing said the hoho was formed to represent the collective interests, unity and aspirations of the Naga people at a time when Naga society was deeply divided by internal conflict.
It said differences and competing interests among tribes and regions had, over the years, weakened the institution and resulted in the withdrawal or dissociation of several constituent organisations.
The committee noted that the tribes represented by the erstwhile Tuensang-Mon Public Organisation, now represented by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), had dissociated from the Naga Hoho during its formative years.
It also pointed out that the Central Nagaland Tribes Council, comprising the Ao, Sumi and Lotha tribes, and the five Tenyimi tribes of Nagaland have remained outside the Naga Hoho in recent years.
It said Naga Hoho has consequently been functioning without the direct participation of all Tribe Hohos from Nagaland, weakening its representative character and limiting its ability to speak collectively for the Naga people.
The committee stated that the Federal Assembly convened at Senapati on July 31, 2026, resolved to terminate the Executive Council and place the affairs of the Naga Hoho under the care of the Speaker. A five-member Search Committee was subsequently constituted to facilitate the nomination/election of a new team of office-bearers within three months.
It said the present political situation, marked by divisions among the Naga people and different political agreements and arrangements, made unity and collective understanding imperative. It also pointed to the Opposition-less Government in Nagaland and the efforts of various Naga political groups to work together under the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR).
The committee said the Naga political question concerns the entire Naga people irrespective of present administrative boundaries and that a durable and honourable political settlement requires unity among Naga tribes and regions.
It appealed to all tribal organisations to rise above past differences, grievances and competing interests and participate in restructuring the Naga Hoho as an inclusive, democratic, accountable and representative apex platform.
The committee stressed that the Naga political solution must remain the foremost collective priority, warning that failure to unite could lead to renewed divisions, conflict and bloodshed.
It called for rebuilding the Naga Hoho on the principles of unity, inclusiveness, mutual respect and collective responsibility, with the objective of articulating the collective voice of the Naga people in pursuit of an inclusive, honourable and lasting Indo-Naga political solution.
