Naga man makes use of bamboo for livelihood

Traditionally all the Naga tribes have a rich tradition of art and craft. The most important works of art and craft exist in the form of basketry, weaving, woodcarving, pottery, metal work, jewellery and beadwork. 
Some in Nagaland have taken up bamboo crafting to earn livelihood.
Imo Ao- a 35-year-old craftsman born and brought up from Dimapur is no exception.
Imo, who lives in a rented house with no proper resources and financial assistance, have been in this business with the help of his wife. He credited her as the “backbone” of his journey.
Despite having undergone heart surgery in Delhi in the year 2013, Imo said his wife does not miss even a single day to sell his finished products at Super Market, Dimapur.
Imo whose only resources are the raw materials available in the vicinity have been using bamboo and wood to make trays, mobile stands, baskets flower stand, salad and fruit tray, machete covers, forks and other decorative items in different forms.
This hardworking self-made man believes there is no substitute to hard work.
