Naga Xpress transport agency (courier & logistics) was opened on Saturday at Naga Shopping Arcade, Supermarket, Dimapur, with a dedicatory prayer led by Reverend Hutoi Achumi, regional secretary of Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB), North East.
Speaking at the launch, proprietor and managing director Vikuto Asumi shared his entrepreneurial journey, recounting the challenges faced in establishing the firm over three years ago. Despite lacking prior business experience or partners, Asumi said he secured the necessary trade license and accounts, attributing the venture’s timing to divine providence. “It was God’s perfect timing,” he reflected.
Naga Xpress currently operates four offices—two each in Guwahati and Dimapur—and an agency at Chümoukedima, employing nearly 30 indigenous Nagas. The firm provides courier, logistics, and private security services, offering employment to youth, uneducated workers, and village laborers.
Asumi highlighted the company’s daily delivery service from Guwahati to Dimapur and its nationwide reach through collaboration with Transport Corporation of India (TCI), covering major cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
To ensure customer confidence, the firm has partnered with New India Assurance for goods insurance.
However, Asumi also raised concerns over poor road infrastructure in Dimapur, Manipur, and Silchar, and unethical practices such as illegal taxation and extortion. He said many genuine business owners face threats and financial demands, while unethical practices continue unchecked.
As a member of the Business Association of Nagaland (BAN) Grievances Cell, Asumi voiced opposition to monopolistic practices in the transport syndicate, which he said hinder fair opportunities for both Nagas and non-Nagas.
He appealed to civil society organisations and the public to support indigenous businesses and promote sustainable livelihoods.
The programme witnessed words of encouragement from GB Hevishe village, Kahuto Chishi, Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) GK Rengma, and representatives from BAN, Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI), and Western Naga Youth Front.
