Newly constructed building of Nagabazar panchayat-cum-parking lot was inaugurated by, CEO, Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSDCL) Er Kezhazelhou Theünuo at Nagabazar colony, here on Friday.

In his speech, Theünuo stressed on the need to take care of public property as many of those infrastructure and buildings go to waste before time.
He said Nagas, be it public or State government, society, individual, build houses and construct roads but do not have timely maintenance.

He said this was the reason why most of the buildings, roads, bridges and infrastructure gets deteriorated and demolished before reaching its full life span.
Similarly, he pointed out that rigid pavement road were designed for 30-35 years and flexible roads or bituminous roads were designed for 8-10 years however, all these life span depends on quality of work, material use and maintenance. Therefore timely repairing and renovation was a must for longevity of the infrastructures. “Let us preserve our old buildings so that it can be a heritage in the next generation”, he said

Construction for Nagabazar panchayat hall-cum-parking lot was tendered and issued on March 31, 2023 with the amount of Rs.2.30 cr which includes electrification, water supply and sanitary fittings and rain water harvesting reservoir, he said. Theünuo added that he was glad the work was successfully completed within the amount and the time line.

“After inauguration and final payment is cleared, MoU for operational and management will be signed between Nagabazar panchayat, Kohima Smart City (KSC) and KMC on the basis of revenue sharing as per Smart city mission guidelines,” he informed.

KSC has taken up similar community buildings in other six municipal wards including New Market, Daklane, Midland, D.Block, Kitsubozou and North Block under Slum Area Re- Development.
New Market Panchayat hall-cum-parking lot was completed last year and inaugurated, MoU also signed and became functional. Similar MoU for operational and managment will be done with other respective panchayats, Theünuo said. Smart city mission period was supposed to be completed by June 2023 but MOHUA has extended for another year for completion of ongoing projects.

As of June 2023, it was estimated that 74% of 100 smart cities projects have been completed and 26% were yet to be completed for which extension has been granted, Theünuo informed.
