KOHIMA, MAY 20 (NPN): The newly constructed Nagabazar Sub-Centre building was inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima, Dr. N. Leamnyei Konyak, on Wednesday with an aim to enhance healthcare delivery for residents of Nagabazar in Kohima.
The Sub-Centre building was constructed under the health grants of the 15th Finance Commission for 2021-2022.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Dr. Leamnyei described the upgraded Sub-Centre as a renewed pledge of care and a beacon of hope for accessible and affordable healthcare. He expressed optimism that the centre would serve as a model for universal health coverage.
Dr. Leamnyei informed that the centre, established in 1987, currently has a dedicated workforce comprising eight personnel, including two Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), a dresser, a vaccinator and four medical attendants.
He urged the staff to serve the people with dedication, empathy and honesty.
Highlighting the services to be provided, the CMO said the centre was designed to deliver comprehensive preventive and promotive healthcare at the community level.
He stated that the Sub-Centre would provide 12 essential healthcare packages covering pregnancy and childbirth care; neonatal, infant, childhood and adolescent health; family planning and reproductive health services; management of communicable and non-communicable diseases; ophthalmic, ENT and oral healthcare; elderly care; palliative and mental health services; and emergency medical services, including trauma and burns care.
He further informed that the centre was equipped with 12 essential medical equipment and would offer 14 essential diagnostic services.
Dr. Leamnyei also stated that under the Government of India’s Free Drug Service initiative, 106 essential medicines would be made available free of cost.
Stressing that healthcare was a fundamental right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution, he said the department remained committed to providing the best possible healthcare services to the community. He also called upon the public to work collectively towards building a healthier and stronger community.
Delivering the keynote address, councillor of Ward-4 Nagabazar under Kohima Municipal Council, Zeneivonuo Nakhro, expressed happiness that the Sub-Centre would bring essential healthcare services closer to the residents and contribute towards improving the healthcare system in the colony.
She urged the public to protect, utilise and support the centre, and expressed hope that it would become a vibrant hub for community health education and wellness.
The programme was chaired by secretary of Nagabazar Panchayat, Neiba Bio, while pastor of Upper Nagabazar Baptist Church, Ruokuowhelie Pienyü, invoked God’s blessings. Vote of thanks was delivered by chairman of Nagabazar Panchayat, Thinuowhelhou Kire.
