Nagaland: 11 GPRN/NSCN (U) members join Kitovi’s group

Eleven political members from Khehoyi camp in Niuland district have joined GPRN/NSCN group led by president ‘maj. gen.’ (Retd) RM Lotha and ato kilonser N. Kitovi Zhimomi.

In a press note, the MIP said that the members include three kilonsers– Tokiho Aye, Tokiho Tuccu and Kakiho G. Zhimo, six dy. kilonsers– Botovi K. Aye, Akheto Swu, Hojekhu Chishi, Hotoshe H. Jimo, Asheto Shohe and Hokugha Awomi and two tatars– Mughato Muru and Nitoho Ayemi. MIP said the 11 members who were relocated from Khehoyi camp did so amid distressing circumstances. MIP said the members claimed that a group of self-serving individuals within the camp orchestrated a troubling situation on Sunday, a day spiritually observed as a non-working day by Christian community.

It said that on April 21, 2024, these individuals took the drastic step of unofficially impeaching N. Kitovi Zhimomi, who was the ato kilonser of Unification.
“This unprecedented action involved the clandestine organization of what can only be described as an Army Coup,” MIP stated.

MIP said that coup’s circumstances were particularly egregious, as it effectively confined the remaining members within the camp and barred them from exercising their freedom to leave. According to MIP, such manoeuvre blatantly violated the “Yezabo”– the community’s governing principles.

Moreover, MIP said the members emphasized that the entire operation was carried out by a select few from the military, without the knowledge or approval of the cabinet and the broader Naga region representatives.

MIP said the members voiced concerns over the imposition of a military form of governance in a modern democratic context, labeling it as an egregious affront to the principles of civil discourse and human rights. “This practice, they contended, is utterly intolerable for anyone truly committed to democratic values and human dignity,” MIP stated.

It said that these political members were cohesive in their efforts to enhance and solidify the “Agreed Position,” recognizing its importance in guiding their collective actions in working toward an early Naga solution.

Additionally, MIP said their steadfast commitment to supporting the undisputed leader demonstrates their dedication to effective leadership and a “united vision for peace and progress” in bringing about peace and prosperity and secured future for the younger Naga generation.
