Student body representatives from at least 19 colleges have alleged irregularity in the ongoing All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) election process.
In a joint statement, the signatories expressed serious concern over the issue and claimed that a candidate, who was found ineligible to contest as per the provisions of the ANCSU Constitution, PART 2 (a-vi), was allowed to participate.
They expressed surprise that officials of ANCSU and the election commission allowed such a deviation from the constitutional guidelines, thereby compromising the transparency and integrity of the election process.
The signatories asserted that such actions not only violated the principles laid down in the constitution but also diminished the trust of the student community in the fairness of the election.
Further, they said that the allegation, made by Sazolie College, Phezhu Jotsoma, was supported by other colleges.
However, they said the complaint was dismissed by ANCSU assembly speaker who took arbitrary decision in order to allow a particular candidate to participate in the ANCSU election without the consultation of the house.
They accused the speaker of being biased, adding his action failed to maintain the strong moral integrity and decorum of the house.
The colleges include Immanuel college, People’s college, Modern college, Cornerstone college, Salt Christian college, Yemhi Memorial college, Peren govt college, St. John college Dimapur, Bailey Baptist College, Sazolie college, Mount Tiyi college, NIELIT Kohima, Tuli college, Kohima science college, Fazal Ali college, Patkai Christian college (A), Mount Mary College, Eastern Christian College and Dimapur govt college.
