The New Millennium Youngster Club, Wangshu Village, organised the 21st Christmas Trophy 2025, marking a significant milestone in fostering sportsmanship and youth engagement in the region.
The programme commenced with a prayer, followed by a welcome address from head GB of Wangshu Village, S. Bechung, who extended a warm welcome to the special guest, former general secretary of the Tobu Area Students’ Union (TASU), Peter Khole, along with other dignitaries, invited guests and well-wishers.
In his keynote address, Khole delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking speech, urging players to view the tournament as a stepping stone toward greater achievements. He highlighted sports as an emerging industry with vast potential to generate career opportunities and reduce unemployment in the state. Expressing concern over the declining sports culture due to substance abuse, he called upon the youth to remain disciplined and focused. Referring to his arrival on foot, he underscored the hardships faced in the Tobu Area and encouraged the younger generation to take responsibility in uplifting the social, economic, political, and overall development of society.
Earlier in the programme, students of Baptist School, Wangshu presented a special performance, while the event was chaired by Easter N. The opening ceremony also witnessed the participation of representatives from various Civil Society Organisations across the Tobu Area, reflecting strong community support for the initiative.
Altogether, 12 teams are participating in the weeklong tournament, making it one of the major sporting events in the area and reinforcing the commitment of Wangshu Village to promote youth development through sports.
