Nagaland has become the second State in the Northeast to have introduced a continuous ambient air quality monitoring station.
Inaugurating the innovative monitoring station for ambient air quality at PWD junction here on Thursday, environment, forest & climate change and law & justice minister CM Chang called for creating public awareness on ill-effects of air pollution.
He stressed using eco-friendly fuels on vehicles to curb air pollution. He said as this was a manmade problem, everyone should come together to resolve it.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Pollution Control Board chairman Rusovil John said Nagaland had become the second North-eastern State to have a functioning continuous ambient air quality monitoring system (CAAQMS), claiming that the instrument was world class.
He said the station would monitor 12 parameters like sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), toluene, ozone (O3), MP_Xylene, ethyl benzene, O_Xylene, particulate matter 2.5 (PM 2.5), particulate matter (P.M. 10) and benzene, besides monitoring even the weather conditions.
The programme was chaired by Nagaland Pollution Control Board member secretary Kenei Miachieo.
