Three villages– Yonglok, Shetep and Namahching — in Longleng district would be covered/affected by the proposed railway belt from Dimapur to Tizit.
This was disclosed by legislator B Bangtick Phom during a consultative meeting held at Yonglok village, Longleng district under his chairmanship with representatives of the affected villages on Thursday.
Attended by Longleng deputy commissioner W Manpai Phom, superintendent of police, Phom People’s Council president and representatives of the village councils, the meeting urged the respective village authorities to issue no objection certificates (NOC) for finalisation of the project.
Welcoming the participants, the legislator appealed for active cooperation from all stakeholders for the successful implementation of the railway project in Longleng district.
Upon request from the affected village councils, the meeting agreed to initiate for a joint sitting with all the stakeholders, right from Dimapur to other villages and towns within the proposed railway belt.
The participants also requested the MLAs concerned to take up the matter with the chief minister in this regard. The house agreed in principle to issue NOC on the condition that the beneficiaries were compensated as per approved government rate.
Demand for a full-fledged railway station at Yonglok village was also made to cater to the needs of Longleng District. Further, being the parent village of the three villages, Bura Namsang Village Council representatives conveyed that they had no objection whatsoever with the developmental activities to be carried out by the government.
