The 34th Langpangkong Students’ Conference (LKM) Sports Festival 2026 commenced on January 29 at the Langpangkong Tzükong Government High School ground, Chuchuyimlang. The two-day festival, hosted by the Chuchuyimlang Village Council in collaboration with the Chuchuyimlang Students’ Union, will conclude on January 30.
Around 550 delegates invited by the host village are participating in the event. As Chuchuyimlang serves as the headquarters, the festival venue remains fixed at the village regardless of which community hosts the programme, with the grounds and courts already maintained for the competitions.
This year’s festival features three main events: the Men’s Football Tournament, Men’s Volleyball Tournament, and Women’s Volleyball Tournament. The football and volleyball matches are being conducted under the supervision of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) and Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA).
Champions and runners-up will receive cash prizes and trophies, while individual awards in football include Most Promising Player, Best Goalkeeper, Player of the Tournament, Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Defender. Volleyball awards will honour the Best Setter and Best Spiker in both men’s and women’s categories.
The inaugural football matches were played simultaneously on two grounds. Defending champions Kangtsüng edged past Akhoya Village 1–0, while Longkong defeated Unger 2–0. In men’s volleyball, Changtongya Yimsen overcame Chakpa in a best-of-five sets with scores of 25/11, 25/9, 28/30, and 15/25. The women’s volleyball tournament opened with Salulamang defeating Chuchuyimlang 25/20, 25/12, and 25/13.
Addressing the gathering, guest of honour Lepzungchiba Jamir highlighted that sports is not merely about medals or applause but about shaping character and personality. He stressed the importance of discipline, training and the ability to accept defeat, noting that true sportspersons must learn to rise after failure. Sharing his personal journey, Jamir encouraged students not to limit themselves due to background or circumstances, urging them to pursue progress with courage and determination.
The inaugural programme featured a presentation by the Children’s Ministry of Chuchuyimlang Baptist Church, flag hoisting by the guest of honour, and the official kick-off of the festival. LKM president Imlinok delivered the presidential address, while a representative from the Riongsanger Putu Tatar Salang, Chuchuyimlang, gave the welcome speech. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by LKM sports secretary Imtinuklu Jamir.
