Nagaland 36th CASA annual football tournament kicks off

DIMAPUR, OCT 28 (NPN)

The 36th edition of the Chessore Area Sports Association (CASA) annual football tournament 2025 commenced on Tuesday at Chessore Headquarters with MLA and Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland and chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Shamator, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung as the special guest.
Organised in collaboration with the Sansad Khelo Mahotsav initiative, the tournament brings together nine football clubs from the region in a celebration of sportsmanship and community engagement.
Addressing the gathering, the advisor highlighted the evolving role of sports in society. “Sports are no longer just a source of entertainment or physical exercise. They are a vital component of holistic development—contributing to physical, psychological, social and academic or professional growth,” he stated. Emphasizing the transformative power of sports, he added, “They build strong bodies, resilient minds, and cohesive communities. Integrating sports into daily life is essential for nurturing well-rounded individuals.”
The inaugural programme was chaired by S. Hantsula, with pastor of CVBC, Toki Allen, invoking divine blessings. President of CASA, H. Mukamchim, and president of SDFA, L. Shahoto, delivered the welcome and short speeches respectively.
The event concluded with the formal declaration of the tournament by the special guest, marking the commencement of competitive matches among the participating clubs.
