Nagaland 3rd Patkai Trophy 2025 kicks off

DIMAPUR, OCT 29 (NPN)

The 3rd Patkai Trophy 2025, hosted by Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), commenced on Wednesday at the college ground under the theme “Celebrating Talents,” bringing together 24 educational institutions from Nagaland and Assam for a three-day inter-institutional sports championship. The event will comprise of competitions in volleyball, basketball, badminton (men and women), and football (men).
Gracing the occasion as inaugural guest, MLA and Advisor to the Department of Water Resources, Government of Nagaland, Tongpang Ozukum lauded Patkai Christian College for its balanced focus on academics and extracurricular activities. Addressing the issue of rising unemployment, he noted that Nagaland ranks among the top five Indian states with the highest number of government employees, while job saturation continues to grow. He urged youth to channel their passion into sports and creative fields, highlighting football, badminton and volleyball as integral to Naga society. “Play with passion,” he encouraged, reaffirming the State’s commitment to sports development.
In his welcome address, PCC (A) Principal Dr. Thepfuvilie Pieru expressed gratitude to Almighty God and emphasized the role of sports in promoting physical health, discipline and unity. He stated that the Patkai Trophy serves as a platform for students to showcase their talents and strengthen inter-institutional bonds across the region.
The opening ceremony featured a musical performance by Chanleishon Vashum, a presentation by the Students’ Union, and an exhibition by the Patkai Multi Gym. The event was hosted by assistant professor of English, Talisunep Jamir, with an invocation by assistant professor of Botany, Avono Savino. Dean of Students, Wetshte Thopi, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating all guests, participants and organizers.
Advisor Ozukum officially declared the championship open with a ceremonial kick-off, followed by preliminary matches across all disciplines.
The event continues over the next two days, celebrating youth talent and inter-institutional camaraderie.
