Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) witnessed a major boost in its ranks in Peren district with the mass joining of 417 new members led by Dr. Tumda Newme, former Independent candidate from 6-Tening Assembly Constituency and founding member of Peren division NDPP.
According to NPCC, the joining programme, organised by Peren District Congress Committee (DCC) at the residence of Dr. Newme, was marked by renewed hope and collective resolve to provide a strong alternative to the people of Nagaland. In his address, Dr. Newme said he decided to join the Congress as the people were disillusioned with the present government, which he described as a “showmanship party” flaunting wealth while the common man suffers.
“The rich are getting richer and the poor are suffering, and it is very sad to see the situation,” he stated, mentioning that Congress, with its legacy of service and inclusivity, was the right platform to stand with the people. Welcoming the new members, NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir encouraged them to work diligently towards the party’s goal of coming to power in 2028. He highlighted the significance of the moment, noting that all three former candidates of Tening A/C had now converged under the Congress banner to fight for the common cause of the people. Supongmeren also appealed to the public to reject the practice of accepting money during elections and to elect leaders who can bring genuine development and prosperity.
NPCC working president Khriedi, in his speech, pointed out loopholes in the governance model of the BJP and its allies, alleging manipulation of democratic institutions, including the Election Commission, to win elections.
Earlier, DCC Peren president Namrachang Hegui delivered the welcome address. The programme was also attended by NPCC general secretary and Peren district in-charge Rosy Thomson, along with senior leaders and functionaries from the district and state.
NPCC described the mass joining as a powerful testament to the growing public sentiment for a credible and people-centric alternative in Nagaland.
