Nagaland 5 arrested in rehab centre death case

DIMAPUR, NOV 27 (NPN)

Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident involving the death of an individual at Yeshu Arms Wellness Foundation, Chekiye village, Block-6, Chümoukedima district, Dimapur Police has registered a suo motu FIR at Diphuhar Police Station and initiated a detailed investigation.
DCP (Crime) & PRO Dimapur Police said four individuals directly involved in the incident, along with the owner of the rehabilitation centre, had been arrested and were in police custody.
PRO said that on November 26, at around 1500 hrs, Diphuhar Police Station received telephonic information from Referral Hospital regarding a dead body kept at the hospital, reportedly brought from the said rehab centre. A police team proceeded to the hospital, where the doctor on duty confirmed that the individual had been brought dead. The deceased was identified as Pradeep Basumatary (46), son of Lt. Lombuthor Basumatary, resident of Aojan, Ganeshpuri, Uriamghat, Assam.
Following standard procedure, an inquest was conducted and preliminary examination revealed visible marks of physical assault, including multiple bruises on the lower limbs and buttocks, and injury marks on the legs, left cheek and left hand.
These injuries were suspected to have been caused by blunt objects, leading to the suspicion that the victim was physically assaulted, resulting in his death. The body was shifted to Dimapur District Hospital for post-mortem. Police said all necessary forensic, technical and procedural steps were being undertaken to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
A parallel inquiry has also been initiated to verify the centre’s compliance with licensing and operational standards, including operational validity and adequacy of in-house medical facilities and qualified mental health professionals.
