Five females died and nine others injured Saturday night when the bus in which they were travelling rolled off the road at Dzüdza Bridge, located between Tsiesema and Peducha, under the Peleilizie area within Tsiesema Village jurisdiction.
According to reports, the bus carrying over 40 members of Chümoukedima Ao Baptist Church was returning after a revival programme in Mokokchung when it reportedly developed mechanical failure.
The injured were rushed to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), Dimapur, for treatment. Sources said the condition of some of the injured was serious.
Police sources said personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information about the mishap. Further details could not be obtained till the time of filing this report.
A youth leader from Tsiesema Village told Nagaland Post that local youths reached the accident site within 20 minutes of receiving information about the mishap. He said the injured passengers were transported to CIHSR hospital using the second bus that was part of the entourage.
He added that an excavator was requisitioned to retrieve one of the deceased whose body was trapped beneath the overturned bus.
Recalling a similar incident, the youth leader noted that a bus from Tuensang reportedly met with an accident at the same location around 2 a.m.
Volunteers from the Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO), led by its president, along with police and district administration officials, also arrived at the site to provide all necessary assistance and also assess the situation. Youths from NAYO and Tsiesema Village additionally donated shawls to drape the bodies of the deceased victims.
