The 69th National School Games Taekwondo Championship concluded on October 30 at K. Kire Badminton Stadium, Police Complex, Chümoukedima. The closing ceremony was graced by the minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Kruse emphasized that the championship was not merely about winning medals but about uncovering potential, building confidence, and cultivating the drive to aim higher. She noted that whether or not participants had secured medals, they had demonstrated that true success lies in effort, perseverance, and respect for one’s opponents.
Highlighting the significance of taekwondo, Kruse described it as a sport that instills discipline and shapes character. She stated that qualities such as maintaining composure under pressure, discipline, and respect for opponents would serve athletes well in all aspects of life. Sports, she added, play a vital role in the growth and progress of a nation.
Kruse further remarked that India is currently witnessing an unprecedented focus on nurturing talent and developing a robust sports ecosystem. She expressed optimism that the nation is building a generation of disciplined, confident, and capable citizens. Engaging in sports like taekwondo, she said, contributes to the nation’s strength not only through potential international victories but also by embodying the values of perseverance and teamwork essential for nation-building.
Kruse congratulated all participants, acknowledging both winners and those who gave their best efforts. She encouraged them to remain humble in victory, learn from defeat, and continue striving for excellence.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by commissioner and secretary, Youth Resources and Sports, Anthony Ngullie. A special song was presented by Toshimeren Jamir, and the thanksgiving prayer was offered by senior state sports coach, Khriehutuo Tsira.
