Nagaland 69th National School Games Taekwondo Championship kicks off in Chümoukedima

The 69th National School Games Taekwondo Championship, organized and powered by the Government of Nagaland under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and in collaboration with the Nagaland Taekwondo Association, kicked off on Tuesday, at K. Kire Badminton Stadium, Police Complex, Chümoukedima.
The opening ceremony was graced by advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, as the special guest, and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border), Imnalensa, as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, H. Tovihoto Ayemi described the event as “more than just a sporting competition,” calling it a celebration of youthful energy, national unity and the unyielding spirit of sportsmanship that binds us as one people and one nation. He highlighted that the championship represents a proud moment for Nagaland, a state renowned for its strength, discipline and perseverance. Emphasizing the state’s growing reputation as a centre for sporting excellence, Ayemi stated that the Taekwondo Championship is a vital step in our collective mission to identify, develop and nurture sporting talent at the grassroots level.
“Taekwondo, as a sport and discipline, teaches respect, humility, perseverance, and self-control, values that go beyond physical strength and shape character and leadership in every walk of life,” he said.
He further added that the championship was a platform for unity, cultural exchange, and friendship among the youth of the diverse Indian nation. “Sports possess a unique and unifying power, it transcends barriers of language, culture and region, bringing us together under a shared spirit of excellence and mutual respect,” he remarked.
Ayemi also expressed gratitude to chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for his vision, proactive leadership, and steadfast support in promoting sports and youth development in Nagaland. He extended appreciation to the School Games Federation of India for recognizing Nagaland’s potential and entrusting the state with the honour of hosting this prestigious national event.
In his address, Imnalensa lauded the event as a celebration of the diversity of the great nation. He congratulated all participants for representing their schools and states at a national platform, calling it a significant achievement.
He reminded the young athletes that winning medals is not the only measure of success. “Whether you win or not, you are all true champions and ambassadors of Taekwondo,” he said, encouraging participants to compete with courage, respect their opponents, and cherish every moment of their journey. Quoting an inspiring thought, he said, ‘Every battle is fought twice, first in the mind and then on the field.’ He also urged visiting participants to explore the beauty of Nagaland, experience its rich culture, and create lasting memories during their stay.

3rd- Lovepreet Singh (Panjab) and Ayush Kumar (Bihar)
