Advisor for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, Zhaleo Rio, on Tuesday disclosed that the state government had already acquired almost all of the land required for the Nagaki City project.
The proposed planned city—Nagaki City—at Chathe valley under Chümoukedima district aims to address urban expansion and meet the demands of modernization.
Speaking to a section of media on the sidelines of an event at Chümoukedima town council hall, Zhaleo said “We have already acquired almost the required area for the main city and about 90% of compensation has been paid.”
Advisor said that there were initial challenges during the land acquisition phase, with some landowners unwilling to part with their land.
However, he said that after proper explanation, public and villagers themselves were now encouraging the state government to go ahead and bring up the planned city as early as possible.
Describing Nagaki City as a “mega project”, Zhaleo informed that around 39 square kilometres have been earmarked for the first phase, referred to as the incubation city, which would include all key urban facilities expected in a planned modern city.
Further, Zhaleo informed that groundwork, including the development of roads and a sports complex, has already begun.
“The firm engaged for the planning process has almost completed its work. We are also hopeful that the Government of India will extend its support, as our chief minister is serious about taking up this project,” advisor said.
On the recent development in Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), where a group of councillors had submitted a no-confidence motion against the chairperson and deputy chairperson, Zhaleo said that the issue had been resolved.
He stated that the deputy commissioner had fixed a date for hearing, and the motion was defeated, adding that everything was now fine and under control.
