Wokha District Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC), and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao under Mission Shakti, observed the launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on Tuesday.
According to a DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar, delivered the keynote address and officially launched the 16-day campaign. Highlighting the persistent issues of gender-based violence in society, he stressed the urgent need to confront these challenges. He noted that while government schemes and programmes exist to combat such social evils, meaningful change can only be achieved when civil society, community leaders, and organizations actively engage in addressing the root causes.
He further remarked that organizing events alone would not bring lasting solutions, and collective efforts were required to educate and raise awareness, particularly among men and young boys, to foster a safe and peaceful environment for all genders. He appealed to leaders across sectors to take responsibility in spreading awareness and promoting gender sensitivity throughout society.
District Coordinator, DHEW Wokha, Dr. Wonjano E Enny, administered the pledge on gender-based violence, reaffirming the commitment to end all forms of violence and discrimination.
A detailed presentation and training session on the POCSO Act 2012 was conducted by Panel Lawyer, Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA), Adv. Shanchobeni P. Lotha, who elaborated on legal provisions, punishments, offences, and guiding principles under the Act.
Centre Administrator, OSC, Thungbeni Kikon, presented an overview of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and the Child Marriage Act 2006, highlighting key aspects and legal safeguards for children and minors.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by DMC, DHEW, Wonchano E. Enny.
