Nagaland: ACYA SFS Kohima observes 45th Youth Day; new team installed

DIMAPUR

Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) St. Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish Kohima Town observed its 45th Youth Day on Sunday at Savio Hall, SFS Parish Kohima Town, where the new executive team for the 2026–27 tenure was formally installed.
Speaking on the occasion, former president Keneilhounyü Daniel highlighted the themes announced by Pope Leo XIV for 2026—World Peace Day and World Mission Sunday. World Peace Day, observed on January 1, carries the theme “Peace be with you all: Towards an “unarmed and disarming’ peace,” urging rejection of violence and embracing authentic peace built on love, justice, meekness and evangelical humility. World Mission Sunday, to be observed on October 18, will mark its centenary with the theme “One in Christ, united in mission,” emphasizing peace as a universal call.
Daniel urged the new team to align their activities with the Pope’s vision, while also suggesting a five-year plan to prepare for the association’s golden jubilee in 2031, recalling the success of its silver jubilee in 2006. He further emphasized ACYA SFS’s guiding motto “For The Greater Glory of God” and called for continued support to the parish’s Angami Catholic Union (ACU), mothers’ and fathers’ associations.
Vizomenuo Merlyn, convenor of the nomination committee, reminded the youth to uphold respect for elders and leaders, cautioning against the growing trend of neglecting traditional values despite modern education and tech-savviness. Citing the biblical principle “You reap what you sow,” she urged members to remain responsible, strengthen the association and reach out to disconnected youth.
Outgoing office bearers—president Aviu Augustine, vice-president Mego Simon, general secretary Kekhriengunuo Catherine, joint secretary Sweety Khruomo, treasurer Kediseno Victoria and finance secretary Petevi Michael—welcomed the new team comprising president Zhavilie Raymond, vice-president Rokolazotuo Emmanuel, general secretary Kevisanuo Carmila, joint secretary Dziesekhouü Jacinta, treasurer Dziesevinuo Maria and finance secretary Neikhotuo Clement.
Earlier, parish priest Rev. Fr. Mathew Mhabemo unveiled the ACYA SFS flag and invoked blessings, while youth members presented songs. The programme concluded with benediction pronounced by catechist Petekhriezo Francis.
