Former Nagaland chief secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir, highlighted the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in a rapidly evolving world during the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) Collegiate Meet 2024.
Citing futurist Alvin Toffler, Alemtemshi reminded students that “the illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”
Addressing gathering at Livingstone Foundation International College, Dimapur, Alemtemshi underscored the need for educational reform that prepares students for a world marked by AI, robotics, and climate change.
Stressing how global events increasingly impact local communities, he pointed to challenges such as population pressures, infrastructure deficits, and political instability in Nagaland. Alemtemshi also urged students to look beyond textbook learning, with a focus on human rights, interdependence, and sustainable development. He called for a shift in focus from “sovereignty and nationalism to human rights and interdependence.”
Highlighting opportunities in Nagaland’s rich agricultural resources, potential for tourism, and educational development, he said achieving these goals will require strategic planning, resilience, and a united effort across the Naga community.
The opening session was also attended by bronze medalist Paralympian Hokato Hotozhe Sema, inspiring students with his achievements. The five-day event, which began on October 29 and will conclude on November 2, has brought together around a thousand students from 35 colleges across Nagaland to compete in sports, games, and other educational activities.
