CorrespondentKohima, Nov. 29 (NPN)

The directorate of animal husbandry and veterinary services held a farewell ceremony on November 29 to honour two of its senior officers, director Dr. B.M. Sunep and registrar Igumsile, upon their retirement after 35 years of distinguished service at the Directorate’s conference hall, which was marked by heartfelt tributes and reflections on their enduring legacy.
Dr. Imomanen Tzüdir, the additional director and incoming director, presided over the official farewell. In his speech on behalf of the directorate, he acknowledged the transient nature of public service, stating, “As government servants, we come and we go after rendering our service to the people.”
He extended profound gratitude to the retiring officers for their dedicated service and specifically thanked their families for the unwavering support that enabled their success. Dr. Tzüdir concluded by affirming that their “legacy of sincerity, devotion, and dedication will remain forever.”
In their outgoing addresses, both Dr. B.M. Sunep and Registrar Igumsile expressed confidence in the department’s future, stating it was in “good hands.” They thanked their colleagues for the support received throughout their careers.
Reflecting on the critical role of the department, they emphasized its importance for sustainability and advised the staff to “give their best in everything they do.” They underscored the principle of accountability, reminding everyone that drawing a salary without fulfilling one’s duties is wrong, a core value that remains unchanged “even in this AI generation.”
Both retirees expressed feeling “totally satisfied and contented,” and voiced their hope that upcoming generations would carry forward their legacy.
The ministerial staff was represented by registrar Tiamenla, who delivered a farewell speech reflecting on the memories and lessons from the officers’ 35-year journey and thanking them for a successful career.
The program was chaired by additional director, Dr. Kuokehebi Gwirie. The ceremony commenced with a solemn invocation by Dr. Wopanthung Ezung, joint director, and concluded with a prayer of blessing and benediction pronounced by Rev. O. Sashi Ozukum, pastor of KABA (Bayavü Fellowship).
