Nagaland: AICRP organises kharif pulses training

DIMAPUR

A one-day Training and Field Visit cum Input Distribution Programme was conducted at Moalenden Village, Ongpangkong (North) Block, Mokokchung, on January 13, under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Kharif Pulses, SAS:NU. The programme was organised by scientists from AICRP on Kharif Pulses, SAS: NU in collaboration with the ICAR- IIPR, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
A total of 20 farmers participated in the training. The farmers interacted closely with scientists including Dr. Lowrence Kithan (Agronomy), Dr. Akumla Longchar (Plant Breeding), Kavi Sumi (Plant Pathology) and Dr. Rokozeno (Entomology) all associated under AICRP on Kharif Pulses, SAS: NU.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Akumla Longchar, who outlined the objectives of the programme and emphasised its role in enhancing pulse productivity and strengthening extension delivery across Nagaland. Dr. D. P. Patel, nodal officer (NEH Component), ICAR-IIPR, shared his insights on strengthening the pulse sector in the region. Dr. Patel highlighted the importance of adopting modern technologies and reinforcing extension mechanisms to ensure sustainable growth of pulse farming in the state.
As part of the programme, agricultural implements such as Scrapper, Knapsack sprayers and broad spectrum biopesticide -Multineem were distributed to the farmers to further support productivity enhancement. During the feedback session, participating farmers expressed appreciation for the practical and skill-oriented nature of the programme and urged for the organisation of more such initiatives to strengthen pulse extension services in Nagaland.
