The week-long Inter-Tribal Sports Meet 2025, organised by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) under the theme “Harmony through Sports”, concluded at the Multidisciplinary Sports Complex on Saturday.
Zeliang Students’ Union (ZSU) emerged as the overall champion of the tournament, while the Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) received the Best Discipline Award.
In football, the Rongmei Students’ Union Dimapur clinched the championship title, defeating the Zeliang Students’ Union Dimapur, which finished as runner-up. In men’s volleyball, the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur secured the championship, while ZSU took second place. The women’s volleyball title went to ZSU, with ASUD as runner-up.
In the tug-of-war events, ZSU dominated the men’s category, defeating the Tangkhul Students’ Union Dimapur, while the Chakhesang Students’ Union Dimapur won the women’s category, followed by ZSU in second place. The women’s penalty shootout was won by ZSU, with the Chakro Angami Kuda Students’ Union finishing as runner-up. Individual awards in football went to Sentisang of ASUD, who secured the Golden Boot with four goals, while Keheidoyibe of ZSUD was named Best Goalkeeper, and Daithui of the Rongmei Students’ Union Dimapur received the Best Player title. In volleyball, the Best Spiker award was presented to Moatemjen of ASUD, while Bendangtemsu, also from ASUD, was named Best Setter.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, graced the closing ceremony as the special guest. The programme was chaired by DNSU assistant general secretary Azo Wetsah and commenced with an invocation by Johnny Kikon from The Chosen International Ministry, followed by a welcome address delivered by DNSU vice president R. Micheal Yanthan, and a special presentation by Diethozo Thakro.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Chang underscored the relevance of sports in fostering physical fitness, mental discipline, and unity among people. Describing Dimapur as a “mini-Nagaland,” he emphasized the importance of coexistence among diverse tribal communities and urged young sportspersons to pursue excellence and bring laurels to the state and the country. He affirmed that the district administration would continue supporting such initiatives and expressed hope for greater collaboration in future events.
Reiterating the meet’s theme, the Deputy Commissioner called for collective effort, peace, and harmony to build a better and more progressive Dimapur. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by DNSU finance secretary Kezevi Natso, marking the formal end of the 2025 Inter-Tribal Sports Meet.
