Nagaland among 16 states and 3 UTs in SIR Phase-III

NEW DELHI, MAY 14 (PTI): Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced the rollout of phase-III of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 16 states and three Union Territories, including Nagaland, involving 36.73 crore voters from May 30.
The states and UTs where SIR will be carried out are Delhi, Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Telangana, Punjab, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Tripura, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Over 3.94 lakh booth level officers will conduct house-to-house visits during the exercise and will be assisted by 3.42 lakh booth level agents appointed by political parties.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar appealed to electors to participate in phase-III and fill their enumeration forms, stating that the objective was to ensure only eligible voters were included in e-rolls.
The EC also said the combined voters’ list of nine states and three UTs in phase-II was pruned by 10.2%, with over 60 lakh dead voters removed. The voter base across the 12 states and UTs declined from over 50.99 crore to 45.81 crore after the exercise.
