The Organising Committee for the Common Naga Platform has renewed its appeal to all Naga stakeholders to attend the consultative meeting scheduled for November 18 at Agri Expo, Dimapur, stressing that a collective push for an early political solution is now imperative.
In a statement, the Committee said the ceasefire agreements between Naga political groups and the Government of India, in place since 1997 and 2001, were intended to create a conducive atmosphere for free and fair political negotiations. It noted that decades of dialogue were guided by a shared objective-to reach an honourable and mutually acceptable political resolution based on trust. The ceasefire and negotiations, it said, were only means toward a final settlement.
The Committee cautioned against allowing past mistakes to repeat, recalling earlier political processes that yielded regret rather than results. It emphasised that the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position remained the two key documents that should not be undermined. Missing the present opportunity, it warned, could lead to consequences that the Naga people may later find difficult to accept.
Appealing for unity, the Committee urged all stakeholders-irrespective of tribe, profession or social standing-to extend unconditional support for an early resolution. It said the outcome of the political process, whether successful or not, would inevitably impact every Naga, and therefore, no one should remain indifferent or leave the responsibility to a few individuals.
The Committee reiterated that its call carried no hidden agenda, other than the desire for peace and healing across Naga areas.
Reaffirming that the November 18 meeting may be “perhaps the last opportunity”, the Committee urged the public to participate wholeheartedly in the Common Naga Platform at 10 a.m. at Agri Expo.
To preserve the sanctity of the ongoing negotiations, the Organising Committee said it had decided not to invite Naga political groups (NPGs) to the meeting. It explained that negotiators needed more time and space for internal consultations and to engage with the people collectively at a later stage.
