Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony on October 23, in honour of sub subedar Bir Bahadur Thapa, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Battle of Asaphila in the Chinese aggression of 1962.
The post held by Sub Bir Lal Rai and 19 brave soldiers of Assam Rifles, faced the assault with exceptional courage and unyielding determination. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the defenders stood firm and fought till the very end, upholding the highest traditions of the armed forces.
The ceremony witnessed wreath laying by officers, junior commissioned officers, and other ranks of the unit, who paid rich tributes to the valiant soldier.
A two-minute silence was observed to honour his bravery, selfless devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
In another event, the Assam Rifles organized organised a Plogging Drive at Kashiram Basti as part of the ‘Fit India Freedom Run 6.0’ under the theme “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat”, Assam Rifles organised a plogging drive at Kashiram Basti, Dimapur, Nagaland on October 23.
The event aimed to promote fitness and environmental cleanliness among troops. A total of three officers, 14 JCOs and 90 other ranks of Assam Rifles took part in the drive, combining jogging with the collection of plastic waste and litter from garrison areas.
Meanwhile, as part of its sustained outreach initiatives to engage with youth and inspire them towards national service, Assam Rifles organised an interactive programme titled “A Day with the Company Commander” at Sinai Mission School, Kukidolong, Nagaland.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 5 teachers and 40 students (30 Boys and 10 girls) from Sinai Mission School, Kukidolong.
The participants were given a rare opportunity to closely interact with Assam Rifles troops and gain insights into the lives of soldiers.
The day commenced with a cordial welcome and orientation session, followed by a ceremonial flag salute, evoking a deep sense of patriotism and national pride.
The key feature of the event was a motivational lecture on career opportunities in the armed forces.
A variety of competitions were held focusing on physical fitness, teamwork and self-defence skills.
The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where winners of various competitions were felicitated and all participants were presented with tokens of appreciation culminating in a memorable and inspiring.
