A joint programme was organised by Raj Bhavan Chennai to celebrate Nagaland Statehood Day which falls on December 1 and on the eve of Assam Statehood Day on December 1.
Speaking at the occasion Governor of Tamil Nadu R.N. Ravi, said that “People in Chennai are more hospitable and the city is safe for women. Even parents in the northeast are relieved about their girl children studying in Chennai”.
Ravi who also served as governor of Nagaland, said Naga people played a key role in India’s freedom struggle but lamented that they were not part of the curriculum.
On the occasion pastor NCF Chennai Wapangtoshi, who is also the president of North East India Welfare Association Chennai and member, Tamilnadu State Level Inter State Migrant Workers (ISM) Advisory Committee was felicitated by the Ravi for his service to the society over one decade in Tamil Nadu.
Highlights of the celebration included Naga Warriors dance by Rarenba Tatar Ungma and team from Nagaland and Bihu dance from Assam by Bishnu Gogai and team under the aegis of South Zone Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur reflected the soul of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat.
The programme was attended by over 200 residents of Chennai from Nagaland and Assam along with other eminent people from different walks of life.
