Nagaland athlete completes in Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Goa

Nagaland marked another milestone in endurance sports as Viketousie Vupru, popularly known as Ironman Zevor, successfully completed the fifth edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon held in Goa on November 9, 2025. The event, organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), saw the participation of approximately 1,300 athletes from 31 countries.
Vupru finished in 124th position, earning a coveted Finisher Medal in the grueling race that covers a total distance of 70.3 miles (113 km), comprising a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run. His achievement makes him the second athlete from Nagaland to complete the Ironman 70.3, following in the footsteps of John Mongsang, the first Naga Ironman who accomplished the feat in 2023.
It may be noted that completing the Ironman is itself a testimony of resilience, discipline and determination. Vupru’s success is expected to inspire many in Nagaland to pursue excellence across diverse sporting disciplines. His journey reflected the values of hard work, self-discipline, and faith, proving that what seems impossible can indeed be achieved.
Vupru trained at RPJ Arena Rapha Pool, Padhumphukri, under the guidance of his trainer Imlineken Imchen, a former Indian Navy personnel, assisted by Jatpho. Their mentorship and rigorous preparation played a crucial role in his success.
The Ironman 70.3 is widely regarded as one of the ultimate tests of physical and mental endurance, and Vupru’s achievement has brought pride to Nagaland, reinforcing the state’s growing presence in international sporting arenas.
